Surviving a Motorcycle Crash and the After Accident Effects

If you are an avid motorcyclist, then you are no stranger to motorcycle safety. Motorcycle crashes can ultimately lead to serious injuries that can impact and affect your life in many ways now and in the future. So, whether the motorcycle is your regular means of transportation or it is just a hobby, the goal is to arrive at your destination safely, each and every time.

Today, we will go over motorcycle safety and surviving a motorcycle crash, and the after accident effects you may be facing.

Always Wear Protective Gear

Whenever you get on your motorcycle, you should make sure to wear the proper protective clothing. It could be a barrier between you and the asphalt if you were to fall off your bike or get into any other kind of accident.

When you hit the pavement, it can leave you with road rash, broken bones, and even more serious injuries, especially if you weren't wearing any kind of protective gear at all.

Helmets and eyewear are also encouraged while you ride. Florida law doesn't require motorcyclists over the age of 21 to wear a helmet, but it is greatly encouraged. If you choose not to wear a helmet, you must have a $10,000 or more medical insurance policy. If you are under the age of 21, then the law states that you do have to wear a helmet.

Outwear

The outerwear you choose is almost as important as your helmet and eyewear. If you choose to wear shorts on your ride, then you risk road rash and abrasions. Leather outwear is a good choice when riding and can effectively reduce how much trauma is done to your skin when you fall or get into an accident.

Drive Safely

You should also take the time to learn how to drive safely while on your bike. You don't have as much protection during a crash as someone in a motor vehicle has. Stay in your lane and avoid trying to pass other vehicles, and practice patience. Never ride between two lanes or try to get ahead of traffic.

If you are riding with others, no more than two motorcycles can ride next to each other in a lane. You also need to learn how to maintain control over your motorcycle.

Preventing an Accident

As a driver of a motor vehicle, there are also ways they can help prevent motorcycle accidents from happening. Adjusting the mirrors is a good way to keep an eye on the space around your vehicle and puts you in a better position to spot motorcycles. Always take a second look as well to make sure no one has crept up behind you or has come out of nowhere.

In the same respect, motorcyclists should also do the same and be very aware of their surroundings at all. Avoid any reckless or dangerous behavior that can ultimately cause an accident.

Are You a Survivor?

Have you recently survived a motorcycle accident? Did you take any of these precautions leading up to the accident? Even a minor accident can leave a motorcyclist in pain and with injuries that will take time to recover from.

Some of the more common injuries one can sustain during a motorcycle accident include traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, broken bones, and internal injuries. It can result in long term care and treatment as well as physical therapy.

If you have survived a motorcycle accident that was the fault of another driver's negligence, then you may be entitled to compensation for damages. Consult with an experienced personal injury attorney to see if you have a case.

They can then guide you through the process and help ensure that you receive fair compensation for your injuries and other damages resulting from the accident.
