Man Dies After Being Hit By Car While Crossing Central Avenue In Saint Petersburg

Saint Petersburg - Florida Highway Patrol has announced that one person has died after being struck by a car crossing Central Avenue in Saint Petersburg Thursday Night.According to the report by FHP, the fatal accident began as a 67-year-old man, John Cowie was walking across Central Avenue from south to north near 25th Street.
As Cowie was attempting to cross the road, a black sport utility vehicle was driving westbound on central avenue approaching the pedestrian.
At 9:00 P.M. Cowie was struck by the SUV the driver fled the scene. However, FHP said that the driver was followed by a witness and later returned to the site of the crash.
The Pedestrian, John Cowie was taken to Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg where he died of his injuries on Friday.
The accident is currently under investigation by authorities.
